Healing

Opening our hearts to Elvis.

Two years ago, we lost both of our dogs. Our Buddy, a sweet dachshund, of old age, and Iris, a sweet rescue, had a serious neurological disorder. Our family was left broken without them. We weren't sure if we would ever be able to heal enough to adopt again. Last week we decided to go to Wayside Waifs to see how we felt, and if we connected with any of the puppies. We met this little man, and he was an instant fit. He is funny and sweet. He loves to play and cuddle. He is excelling at potty training, and has even mastered the anxient dog art of taking up the entire bed. We are beyond grateful, and for the first time in two years, I think we are finally ready to look back fondly instead of with such gripping sorrow. We named our little hound Elvis. He definitely already the king.

Mario

Mario

The dog that no one kept

We adopted Mario to keep our other dog Chloe company. Chloe had lost her friend to stomach cancer and she was lonely. My husband and I fell in love with Mario immediately, but it took a little time for him and Chloe to make that bond. They are now the best of friends and we love him being part of our family. I can not imagine ever taking him back to Wayside Waifs. He is here to stay.

True love

When I decided I wanted to adopt, I had in mind a dog that was older, housebroken, and crate trained. I was looking through the aisles at all the cute faces, picking out the ones I wanted to view. I saw her. She was laying down asleep and I said hello to her and her huge ears popped up. I knew she was the perfect dog for me. I thought she was full grown, but while meeting her the worker told us she was 6 months old and that they didn't know if she was housebroken or crate trained. He told me I was taking a risk of having to teach her everything. While he was speaking, little Gigi walked into my lap and laid down. I didn't care what the worker had to say, I had already decided that she was mine. I got her home, and guess what! She was housebroken and crate trained. She is the perfect little puppy, and I couldn't love her anymore than I do.

We spotted Elvis (a 6 yr old Chihuahua mix) at the end of the last row of crates and he melted our hearts. He revolutionized our lives. The King has left the building, and entered our home thanks to Wayside Waifs!

Words cannot describe the love and gratitude we feel towards the newest member of our family. We spotted Elvis (a 6 yr old Chihuahua mix) at the end of the last row of crates and he melted our hearts. He had traveled from Indiana to Belton, Missouri and we knew we could provide a loving home the moment we met him. He sings and dances really well, and he gives such sweet hugs! We can't imagine life before Elvis. He revolutionized our lives. The King has left the building, and entered our home thanks to Wayside Waifs!

Oreo Pie is perfect and he and my dog Ramen Noodle are great together. Ramen may be older (he's nine and Oreo is six), but he's half his size and so far, there's been no fighting between the new brothers. We're all super happy. 💙
Along with Ramen, he greets me at the door whenever I come home and they both see me out. Since night one, they'll cuddle up next to each other to be by my side in bed as I sleep. Oddly enough, he doesn't seem too interested in his cat nip toys, so he gives them to his brother that seems to love them so much.
I knew I would bring Oreo home the second I met him and he booped me right away and snuggled as soon as I picked him up. He is always purring and loves to be around us. Ramen and I are so grateful for him.

As we are approaching Roxy's 4th birthday I can't explain how proud I am of my little girl. When I first brought Roxy home I NEVER thought she would stay. She was misbehaved, rude, and uninterested. I do not give up easily and I was determined to make it work. As time passed she slowly began to trust me and her resilient, and adorable, personality began to show. It has almost been 2 years since I brought her home and she is a completely different dog. She has become my absolute best friend and I wouldn't trade her for the world! #adoptdontshop

My family (boyfriend and his 2 kiddos) were coming to wayside to meet a red coonhound mix and unfortunately she was being adopted as soon as we arrived...after looking down a few aisles...we came across three pups, 2 being adopted and 1 female. The kids instantly fell in love and my boyfriend gave me the "pleeaaase" face and the rest is history! She's adjusting well to life in a loving home with 2 kids and 2 kitties! Only 10 weeks old and working on sit and come.

yesterday, March 10th, we adopted a one year old male big orange kitty. My boyfriend and I fell in love with him from the start. First night having him home he warmed up so quickly and was constantly coming up to us to say thank you. When we laid down in bed he ran in there and for about 15-20 minutes he just went back and forth between us giving us kisses and hugs and head buts. We've adopted before so I wasn't expecting him to warm up this quickly. He's already made a huge impact on our lives and is so so loved and spoiled already. Can't wait to spend the rest of his life cuddling with this fluff of fur.

Best Christmas Present ever

We (family of 6) got Comet, or formally known as Timmy 5 years ago, 2 days before Christmas. Literally cannot imagine life without him. He's border-collie lab mix and is SO smart and easily trainable with treats (he's trained us at night to get him a treat or he won't come inside). He's really spoiled and doesn't know how spoiled he is :) . He's very protective of everyone and gets super excited when we come home and pouty when we leave for work and school. He's always been gentle with Lilly, my 10 yr old sister, when she goes outside, the poor baby thinks he has to stay outside when she or anyone is playing in the backyard. Words cannot express how lucky we are to have him in our lives.

How can this amazing dog go unloved for so long....

Formerly known as Memphis, TJ was adopted by my family on 10/8/16. He came to us a very scared and timid boy. We were told he had been shuffled from shelter to shelter and we can't figure out why. TJ is the sweetest and cutest boy ever. He has a love of soft plush toys and carries them with him everywhere he goes. He has an adorable quirk, his tongue sticks out all the time. He also snores like crazy, but every night when we get home from work, we are greeted at the door by TJ and his brother and sister. TJ of course with the toy baby of the day in his mouth. His nubby tail wagging like crazy. It was love at first site for the whole family.

Dixie Rose entered my life nearly 7 years ago and I wouldn't dare change a thing.

I remember visiting Wayside as though it were a trip I took yesterday and not one I took as an 8th grade schoolgirl. My dog Dakota had sadly passed away about half a year prier. When I had finished grieving I realized how lonely it was without the familiar wag of a tail and coldness of a wet nose. Together with my Mom, Stepdad, and sisters we went down to Wayside. My mom was set on getting a small dog but when I met ,the then 5 year old, Dixie Rose all bets were off.
Nearly 7 years later I have no clue what I would do with out my little old lady. Dixie is my best friend and a true companion. I don't know that I could thank Wayside enough for bringing me and her together.
Wayside is the home of lifelong friends.
