Remembering Our Friend Adele Hall

Adele with Benny

Wayside Waifs fondly remembers our dear friend and Board Member, Adele Hall.  Wayside, along with the entire community was graced with her genuine compassion and commitment.  Adele joined the Wayside Waifs family in early 2000, contributing to our important programs and services, then adopting her first of many Cocker Spaniel fur-babies.

Over the years Adele would take the time every day to reach out to individual staff members about animals that touched her heart or to send inspiring messages for a job well done.  Over the last several days we have been sharing our Adele memories with each other, and want to share them with you as well.

"I think back to two years ago...we sent out a message about a cat that needed extra attention.  She emailed me back and said even though she was more of a dog person, she was touched by the story and would be keeping the cat in her puppy prayers."  AnnMarie Thomas, Manager of Community Outreach and Education.

"Her lifelong commitment to philanthropy and her board experience made her a natural role model."  Shannon Barks, Board President

"She was always the first Board Member to respond to an announcement of something we had achieved.  There was always an email congratulating us, a personal pat on the back, or an inquiry about a particular animal."  Cynthia Smith, President

"I will miss her emails every Monday after sending out our Waif of the Week message.  She would respond without fail to each email, sharing her passion about a featured story or adorable photo.  Particularly if it was a Cocker Spaniel!  She always included 'I wish I could take them all- thanks for the incredible work you do!' No, thank you Adele for making our work possible. I will miss her, and her special emails."  Trish Stinger, Web & Marketing Manager

Before her trip to Hawaii, she made time to come to Wayside to see our new expansion.  In her arms were trays of treats for animals.  On behalf of the animals, thank you Adele.  Our thoughts are with the entire Hall family, including her three beloved Wayside Alumni: Holly, Benny and Cory. We love you Adele, thank you for making Kansas City a better place for mankind and man's best friend.

In recognition of Adele's significant contributions to the Kansas City community, her family has asked that memorial gifts be directed to local charities.  Wayside Waifs is one of those charities and we are deeply honored.  For those who desire to make a gift in Adele's honor, please click here to make an online donation.
